SD 05/31/03 "Getting a Melvin." aka "MiT - Men in Trek" #4 - Looks like we have another mouth to feed.

It happened after Lynx ran out of the "Victoria's Secret" store, sobbing. As I was trying to comfor her, someone walked up, gave us the Vulcan salute, and adressed me as "Captain." I noticed by comm badge was showing out from the pocket, so I first thought that it was some congoer who mistook us for one of these "Trekkies," especially after he was fawning over Lynx's "costume." But Lynx thought he might be someone from Starfleet who had gotten stranded here. The man identified himself as "Lieutenant Melvin Orlan" of the USS Liberty. Lynx recalled that ship happened to disappear not long after it transmitted it was investigating a wormhole. So it looks like he's one of us, and not some "Trekkie" after all. He did get the ship's number right NCC 90210. What are the odds of him guessing that number?

Melvin seemed pretty ... odd, probably from being here for a while. He mentioned some other crewmen in Des Mones, but seemed to be saying they were suffering from amnesia and forgotten about home. Maybe we can get them after we get Brundle. Lott informed us she had gotten a transmission from him. It seems he's gotten out of the hospital in Albequerque and is now headed to Las Vegas. Why's he headed there?

In any event, we can get to him now. Though this van does seem a little old ...

the van

According to this tricorder scan, the fuel injectors seem a little coroded. At least I think they're fuel injectors. This may need a little touch-up before we go, but how difficult could it possibly be?

NARRATIVE: Brundle gets hungry and stops at a diner for a burger. But hilarity ensues, and he starts to head off in a car he acquired when the waitress fires a shotgun after him. Brundle's response is to stop and get out of the car, and therefore make himself a better target ...
