SD 07/17/04 - "Going to the Dogs" As Orlan put it, "this survey thing is fun, but we haven't found anything except a whole lot of empty space. Now, I could be wrong, but I'm predicting empty space for next light year or so."

If only we could take his next suggestion, "Can't we just say we've charted this area and go get into some trouble somewhere?"

Unfortunetly, we never have to travel far for trouble.

The problem with the malfunctions has gotten no better, especially those involving the computer. The old joke of getting a dress when you ordered a uniform from the replicator was funny at first, but the malfunctions have gotten less amusing and more annoying. Even worse. I've recently heard a couple reports of corrections to computer code for one station somehow leading to mix-ups in another station.

Chief Engineer Lott has been dealing with the malfunctions the best (s)he can. Somehow, (s)he manages to get a little free time. Word has it (s)he's been doing something in the holodeck, programing something. Wonder what it is?

Speaking of engineers, I've almost forgotten about Demian Tempress. Well, maybe not. Every time I see a hamster I think of him and his odd phobia, "AHHHHHHHHHH!! HAMSTERS!" Last I heard, he was put under medical observation some time ago. I've heard nothing recently. Maybe Ennin has nothing new to report, or maybe he's been distracted by the numerous injuries cause by the malfunctions to the point he hasn't been paying attention to him lately. I better ask about him.

I also haven't heard from Dammers lately either. Last I've seen him was just before the rate of malfunctions took off. Last I've had much of a word with him was the post-Risa review of events. I know Captain M'Rander's been giving him quite a but of work lately, but why haven't I seen him. Lynx seems to be looking a bit anxious lately, so I may not be the only one. I'll have to ask M'Rander about him.

And M'Rander. It seems every time I give her a comm, I get a "I'm busy, please call later" message. Not the same line every time, so it's probably not an automatic recording. When I pass by her quarters, lingering in front of the door only gets a red light - do not disturb.

Something's not right. I'm going to have to check on them, starting with M'Rander.

First however, I need to check with Lera about that sample a shuttlecraft just sent us. They could have taken it to a base station's lab for a more accurate analysis, but it was sent to us by orders of the Admiral - Ironbottom. That alone makes me wonder. So far all I know is the pilot thought it looked like a container of water.

This is odd. No reply from Lera. I better ask Tarra to check on her.

What the hey? It sounds like Tarra's watching a couple animals brawl in a nature-holo. What does she mean Lera's "not herself"?
