SD 11/26/05 - "There's Something I Want to Get Off My Chest" - Well, we've had our first real disaster since getting the ship. At least the crew took care of it.
As I stated in an earlier log, this ship is still full of mold in places. Unfortunetly, one of those places turned out to be Halfpipe's room. She tried to get rid of a slime mold by phasering it. Instead, it exploded into a cloud of spores, and she couldn't find the door and get out - the voice commands weren't working. Melvin tried to help by tossing in a bucket of bleach from the replicator, but it got confused and made him a bucket of peach juice. That almost certainly harmed rather than helped. Fortnetly Tara was able to go in and get her; she had been wearing a vac-suit for going through areas still off-limits to regular access. But by this time, the stuff had gotten into her lungs, so they and Vak-Surak took her to Medical. Lera took her kids and went there at this time as well - the slime mold spore cloud had gotten into the air ducts, and she went to where she thought would be safest.
Unfortunetly, while they were looking over what Halfpipe had, she began coughing and coughing bad. It came up mostly in three blobs of slime that animated. Somehow, they wee able to communicate as two went after Lera and one went to black the door. Fortunetly before the latter did, Tarra and Melvin were able to get her kids out, but a stuck door kept them from returning. So it was up to Vak-Surak and Lera to deal with the blobs. They did seem to have an afinity to Lera, but went for Vak-Surak when she got close. They never did seem to go after Melvin or Tarra.
Lera had some trouble dodging them. She had to remove her shirt when one landed on her, then another went smack right on her chest, went through her bra, and began absorbing the blood and fat from her bosom. Fortunetly Vak-Surak found a fire estinguisher, and iced down all the blobs. Lera, however, was in need of some breast reconstruction surgery afterwards.
We had the EMH treat Half with a massive dose of medication to clear up her lungs and kill the infection. Several others were also treated due to the stuff getting in their rooms, though none was nearly as bad as Halfpipe's case. A study of the captured blobs showed they had a taste for copper-based blood and fat, what Romulians and Vulcans have, and what Lera's bosom has an abundance of. No wonder they went after her.
As for the air ducts, thankfully Lott and Lynx took it upon themselves to go through the contaminared areas with disinefectant and a vacuum. There are some rumors going around about what else they might have been doing while in there, but that's got to be the result of the vacuum making odd noises, not to mention the men having not much else to do. Our holodecks are still down, and even if we got them working, programed for nothing but Vulcan meditation sessions.
Hmm? Message coming in from the Starbase. Hey, it looks like we're getting some additional supplies! With these, we should be able to actualy have this tub technically spaceworthy by ... oh, it looks like there's a reason for this: our first mission for the NCC-1979-F.
WHAT THE F$@#!! Who's idea was it for us to ship a bunch of 'My Little Pony' dolls?!! This is a science vessel, not a freakin' freighter!
